Kuo Chuan Presbyterian VS Xinmin Secondary School

Both are neighbourhood schools.
However, Xinmin got the brains. The aggregate is 235+?
Kuo Chuan's only at 228?

5 guys, 1 girl. Rose among the thorns?
Hah.

SCOREBOARD

Kuo Chuan Presbyterian - 43 [Proposition]
Xin Min Secondary - 57 [Opposition]

MOTION:

"Don't try to be funny. Our society does not encourage a sense of humor."

I think this motion is by far ridiculous. Of course humor is greatly encouraged. I watch comedy movies. I watch Phua Chu Kang and other sitcoms. I even laugh so loudly while watch Gags on the bus. Hee. Okay. So obviously, Kuo Chuan will/had lost because of the motion.

But before i talk about the match. I thought the atmosphere is much better than the other 2 matches. Plus, Kuo Chuan had this survivor theme banner. I thought it was so cool. Shades, blazers. Hot Hot Hot. Especially the one in the centre. But i couldn't see closer. I bet it's either Bertram or Ronald. But anyway, i think Xinmin's cheer was so much nicer. Reminds me of the sec 1 orientation i had to lead back then.

ROUND 1 - Blabbermouth VS the outwitted.

2 thorns fighting for points. Haha. Bertram was such a bullet train. Half the time, i strained my ears trying to locate his words and form sentences. Andrea was really keeping his cool. But 2 short POIs? I have doubt about it.

When it came to Andrea's turn to speak. I could understand! Ah-ha! But Bertram was pinning him down big time. 5 POIs? That's alot for just 1 round, and half the time, Bertram's POIs don't made any sense. I was pitying Andrea, and he had to resort to "erm, okay" so as to move on. Okay, so because i could barely hear 3/4 of Bertram's speech, i have very little comments about this round.

ROUND 2 - The thorn who tried to prick the rose.

The Rose VS the thorn. Guy VS Girl. This has got to be interesting, and it sure was.

Ronald was not really aggressive, and i dun see the problem in being fierce?!! Hell no? I think the judges were so pak jiao. All of them. I thought he deserve to at least get a vote or maybe a tie. He was the best speaker among the KCP boys i think. His delivery was the smoothest compared to the other 2, and he did assert some authority. Oh well. Too bad, he chose to criticize PCK, especially when tan kheng hua was there!

Junyi was quite good, and she was surprisingly calm! Show your gentleness, and flirt a little or two, and you'll win the match. Easy as 123. Flirting was a great option, for a girl that is. Told you, girls will have an edge. Anyway, her points were broader, but i thought Ronald's rebuttal to her were rather weak, but her reply was not that great either. It's still my favorite round though

ROUND 3 - 3 TIX or 3 PEOPLE?

Round 3 was hilarious. I thought Xinmin could aced it, but KCP beat it with wits and grammar.

Bertram was still ear in ear out, c-r-a-p.
So was Andrea, both were pretty bland.
But junyi was the root of the 3 tix problem! MUhahahhaa. And shane was able to catch it.
Nelson, job well done too. But not enough.
I thought Ronald and Junyi made the more sensible POIs, compared to the rest. Shane's coming in as a close third.

ROUND 4 - SHAME ON YOU!!

I love that quote. "Shame on you". And it sounds pretty hilarious, with "Shane, Shame on you" Effing weird. So anyway, shane was blabbering and not really hitting the points of the opposition, and Nelson was torturous. It's a pain to my ear. But job well done for making full use of his 49 secs.

For the opposition case. I thought it was the most concrete one. Strong, Edgy and exciting! Shane, too bad for you.

TOP 3 BEST SPEAKERS

1. Nelson Quek - Pain in my ears, unpleasant to my sight, but job well done to that boy. BEST SPEAKER. Great Rebutting, but a little too mean.

2. Ronald Foo - Best speaker in KCP. Showed authority, showed personality. Cute too. What else you want to condemn?

3. Junyi - She was so calm and gentle. New twist to debate. She's my idol.

Change of match

Ugh. I can't belive soccer is taking over the timeslot of the arena.
Not that i hate soccer.
But because Singapore soccer is not as good as Spain.
And Singapore Soccer players are hmmm... NOT GOOD LOOKING!

No eye candy.
Hah. Makes it worst for the Singapore team.

CHIJ St Nicholas VS Methodist Girls School

Both are equally good schools.
Each boasting at least one best speaker.
6 girls. 4 rounds. Catfight!

SCOREBOARD

CHIJ St Nicholas Girls - 28 [Proposition]
Methodist Girls School - 72 [Opposition]

MOTION:

"Selfish? Yes We Are. Today's Youth are Motivated by Self-Centeredness Alone."

Seriously, i thought this match would be as close as Loyang VS Raffles. But i guess not. 40+ over points. That's serious! Looks like MGS is really good at catfight. MEOW!

ROUND 1 - HAVING BRACES AIN HELPING YOU.

Hazel, VS Celine. Woo. Okay. Hazel was the prop so she will start first. In fact, she was rather calm and dorsal. Taking it slow and steady. Oh wait, it's the braces. Plus, while she's giving her point, Celine is furiously writing notes and pointers to rebut? Anyway, right after her setup, Hazel got attacked by Celine with what's self centreness and self interest. Ain't the two the same?

I thought Hazel could stop talking about helping in old folks all what as a self interest. And she should focus on the fact that CIP is a requirement to score well for the CCA Points, and not briefly mention CIP. I guess, that's her downfall.

Celine's very fierce. I shall label her as fiercest girl of the match. She was constantly pointing to hazel while giving her speech, and Hazel's POIs seriously lack that umph and power. Plus, i think it's a really good strategy for the MGS to talk about their constructive point only at the last 1 minute. That's would give them a 30sec secure time.

ROUND 2 - Battle of the Bitch

As much as i say Sarah is by far the prettiest and all, her eyebrows, her smirk, her cunning grin. Woah, it made her a bitch. However, kudos to Sarah for being the only one to memorize her speech without looking at it over 5 times. That's great. And she was definately more persuasive than Beulah Li. I thought Beulah just had the content and style, but when it comes to persuasiveness, it was miserably bad.

Oh oh. Sarah also injected some singlish/singapore slang into the speech, and i thought it would add some points. Seriously, you know why debates in Singapore are boring and dull. It's because Singaporeans are so shy that their flair and style are not showcased, plus, everyone is speaking in perfect english. More like COPYCAT.

So like i said, Beulah had the content and style, but Sarah wasn't lacking those 2 miserably. Sarah lacked the flair, and Beulah was more straightfoward. Both had the smirk. Both had that eyes. Battle of the bitches.

ROUND 3 - Catfight in the alley?

Like i say, 6 girls. 4 matches. 1 rebuttal round where everyone stays at the platform. Complete catfight. Seriously, i expect more.

Deborah was really naggy. She reminds me of Shahnaz from Loyang.
Sarah was equally naggy but her bitchy personality with the raised eyebrow and all, she really sold her team's case.
Hazel was like i said so calm and dorsal, she could be miss invisible in X-men.

Celine was the one who talked the talk for MGS. The other 2 seem pretty overshadowed. Give them some facetime.
Rebecca was not that great and she wasn't pushy.
The teamwork between Buelah and Celine was formidable. The 2 were hitting hard on sterotypes and all. And they kicked St Nicholas's ass.

ROUND 4 - Sweety pie kicked meanie

Both are equally shy and all. But because Deborah was so sweet and soft spoken, it made the Rebecca seem like a bully. I think it was a good tactic that Deborah stated that her team was at a disadvantage. So true. But her points could easily break the logic and rebuttals of Celine and Buelah. Why wasn't she up first? Oh, and one point, braces ain't helping no one. Look at what happen to Deborah. She was sputtering and splatting her words.

Rebecca did not had the content. Like i don't get how come she kept giving the same rebuttals, but phrased them in a different sentence. If i was a judge, i would have point out how her rebuttals were seemingly similar, that i could predict what she was going to say next.

Pokiez's breakdown

Style - St Nicholas [They had a diversity, MGS was just fierce. Period]
Persuasiveness (tone) - MGS
Content - MGS
Personality - St Nicholas [Sweet.Prep.Calm VS Pushy.Forceful.Dull, who would you choose?]
Rebuttals - MGS

Was it a surprise that St Nicholas lost? No. They lacked the content and flair.
Was it a surprise that it was a trash? No. Despite each have a reigning best speaker in the team.
Let's just say that there won't be anymore catfight this season.

TOP 4 BEST SPEAKERS OF THE MATCH

1st: Celine Wee - Not only is she pretty, she got the ferocious flair

2nd: Sarah Yip - She's a mix.

3rd: Deborah Ho - Sweetness can get you far, but you could have been 1st, if you had that flair.

4th: Buelah Li - She's got the attitude. Miserable content. At least she's 4th and alone at her title.

LOYANG VS RAFFLES INSTITUTION

Let's call it the showdown of the neighbourhood school VS Independent School.
Face it, i bet more than 50% thinks that RI wins hands down.
But wait a minute, they are not the champions!

SCOREBOARD

Loyang - 51 [Proposition]
Raffles - 49 [Oppostion]

MOTION:

"Hey Good Looking, You're a winner. Good looks truimph over effort."

Even before we begin. Let's say that this motion is putting Loyang at a slight disadvantage. Not a huge disadvantage. But bad enough to determined them a loss in the match. Nuff said, let's talk about the debate. Boy, was it enjoyable.

ROUND 1 - Naggy VS Laidback.

Shahnaz started the match with a good morning? But isn't it shown in the evening. I know, i should stop being so picky about such thing, but it's to point out something that makes her seem too caught up in a own world. So, like what a normal proposition should do (laying the parameters/clarification/case divide and all.) I think she did a pretty decent job.

Lionel on the other hand was not being pushy and forceful, and the POIs were rather - lousy. Pretty much, Shahnaz could have just used about 2 sentences to make his POIs wasted, and get moving to her point. But she was TOO NAGGY. She repeated and repeated. Yes. She's trying to make her point foolproof, but it's gonna waste you alot of time.

Opposition turn was pretty laidback. I like the way how Shahnaz keeps giving him POIs, but wait a minute. IT'S TOO LONG. And then Loyang's rebuttal bank got drained bit by bit.

ROUND 2 - Dramatic, Entertaining and Stylish.

Round 2 is like the best match of the round can? It's so funny and all. So anyway, let's start. Yanfen, the Loyang girl, she was really spontateous and loud. Yanfen was really good at putting through her thoughts, and rebutting the opposition case in a really funny way. And all those criticisms, hai ya, the show is a debate with a twist! And such dramatic style really works on TV.

Of course, Kartik was really good too. Kudos to him. I feel that among the 6 people in the match. Yanfen and Kartik were respectively the best 2 for each school. Kartik's POIs were witty but intelligent. And most memorable "Is your mummy credible" That's like the icing on a slice of already so delicious cake. Yanfen also did a good job in injecting humor and her rubber face when there was a confusion in the buttons were authenic.

However, as the round went on. Kartik was still being lively, but it was getting more and more dull. Even Yanfen's active personality died down and she grew pretty serious, talk about double faced. However, I felt that content wise, Kartik won hands downs. Sure, Yanfen had the charisma and personality, but it wasn't enough to salvage her shallow content based delivery.

ROUND 3 - Mean Meaner Meanest

Group rebuttal round, was awesome in style and delivery aspect. But i do agree with the judges. Context wise, not really that well done. However, as the second ticks away, you see the flair in each of the contestants. Most noticeably is the eyecandy, i told you guys will go gaga over (sonika). She was fierce. Lionel was pretty good too. But kartik and yanfens' rebuttal were seemingly shallow. Shahnaz nearly cost her team when she was explaining and explaining the same point in different sentence structure. Overall, Raffles did a better job at this round.

ROUND 4- It seems like hell

Why does it seems like hell? Sonika was fierce, Shi yang was aggressive. Both of them just made my whole TV set burned. Sonika was really fierce, and she gave no lopeholes for Shi yang to point it out. Even so, the ones that Shiyang gave were redundant. Blamed it on over confidence or snobbish, but i think Shiyang was pretty shallow in content based and even his style lack...erm, style. Sonika wins the round handdowns.

BREAKDOWN.

Style - Loyang.
Content -Raffles.
Persuasiveness (tone) - Loyang.
Rebuttals - Loyang.

No doubt that loyang should win. But okay, i was one of the few who thought RI would win at first.
